HASA Establishes Presence In Kenya
Dan Nisly puts philanthropy first, helping children in Africa with his pool industry connections
Building upon a family of leadership
Dan Nisly, On his fourth short-term mission trip to Africa, IPSSA member Dan Nisly delivered Hasa T-shirts to two children’s homes in the Nairobi, Kenya area. Through the diligence of Heart for Africa, sufficient funding has been raised in the last six months to build an entirely new home near Nairobi.
The original location of the Merciful Redeemer home was at the edge of the Mutumba slum in Nairobi. Although these 75 dear children were better off than living on the street, the location and its facilities (or lack of facilities) were far less than desirable.
On July 14, the slum location was abandoned, lock, stock, and barrel. The children were bussed to the new facility, which includes two dormitories, a kitchen/dining room, a well, a garden, plus staff housing and several smaller multi-purpose buildings.
Nisly along with 49 other volunteers, built a fence around the ten acre property, planted the garden, did construction clean up, assembled the bunk beds, hauled in the mattress and blankets, made up the beds, and displayed the dream kit for each child. What a thrill for all involved to see the wide eyed look on their faces and experience their jubilation as they saw their new home, something most likely far beyond their wildest dreams. When they were introduced to the well-stocked kitchen, with a store of food far beyond their previous experience, they sang and danced for more than five minutes! You can know there were many teary eyes among the volunteers to see their efforts so well rewarded.
